The Race Isn't Over...

OYE's runners may have finished the marathon...but the BATTLE OF THE SEXES isn't over!! After weeks of the girls leading, the boys took control. But after the marathon, the girls came back with a vengeance, $1,090 versus the boys' $940. But it's not too late for the boys to come back.

RACE 4 OYE lives on...add your voice and your contribution to see who arises victorious in our fundraising battle of the sexes!

And the winner is....................

EVERYONE!!! We all crossed the finish line and had a day that we'll never forget. We've nearly reached $2000 in donations, and we have nothing but thanks for all of those who have supported us. Please continue to do what you can to show your OYE love if you can.

WE DID IT! LO HICIMOS!!!

WE DID IT! We finished RACE 4 OYE today under the grueling sun of San Pedro Sula. We may or may have not been lapped by runners from Kenya and Guatemala...but it doesn't matter. We all crossed the finish line.

Introducing... CHRIS BENEDICT:

Chris, El Gringo

Q: Where are you from?

A: I am originally from New Jersey, but I'm becoming more Honduran everyday.  Right?

Q: Why are you going to win the marathon?

A: Because no one expects the American to last in the heat of Honduras, I will surprise the others not only with how much I sweat, but also with my stamina.

Q: What is your astrological sign?

A:  I'm a Pisces, which means I am a fish.  This doesn't really apply.

Q: What is your superpower?

A: The mysterious power of the gringo, with his incredible inability to blend in.

P: ¿De donde eres?

R: Soy originalmente de Nueva Jersey, pero estoy convirtiendo más hondureño todos los días. ¿Verdad?

P: ¿Por qué vas a ganar la maratón?

R: Porque nadie espera que el estadounidense va a durar en el calor de Honduras, te sorprenderá los otros no sólo con lo mucho sudar, pero también con mi resistencia.

R: Soy un Piscis, lo que significa que soy un pez. Esto realmente no se aplica.

Nathaly Alberto

Q: Where are you from?

A: Right here in Honduras.

Q: Why are you going to win the marathon?

A: I have trained a lot in order to place first in this marathon and nothing can stop me from achieving my goal.

Q: What is your superpower?

A: I can easily apply my talents as a great dancer to running the marathon. While my competition will struggle to finish, I will dance my way to the winner's circle.

R: He entrenado mucho para obtener primero lugar en esta maratón y nada me puede detener de conseguir mi objetivo.

R: Fácilmente puedo aplicar mis talentos como un gran bailarín para correr el maratón. Mientras que mi competencia no va a terminar, voy a bailar mi camino al círculo del ganador.

Introducing...MICHAEL SOLIS:

Q: Where are you from?

A: New Jersey, but I've been living abroad since 2007.

Q: Why are you going to win the marathon?

A: People thought I placed 9th in last year's marathon, 

but that was only because my racing number was 9. 

I've been training hard in the sun since then, and now 

I think I have what it takes to win.

Q: What is your astrological sign?

A: Scorpio. We're passionate people, 

but we know how to sting when threatened.

Q: What is your super power?

A: I can control the weather with my emotions. 

That's why it's always sunny in Honduras. Now I'm 

going to make sure this race is on fire!

R: Nueva Jersey, pero he vivido al 

extranjero por 5 años.

P: ¿Por qué vas a ganar la maratón?

R: Muchos pensaban que terminé en 9a lugar el año 

pasado, pero eso solo fue porque el número en mi 

camiseta era 9. Sin embargo, he entrenado bastante 

bajo del sol por un año y creo que puedo ganar esta vez. 

P: ¿Cúal es tu signo astrológico?

R: El escorpión. Somos personas apasionadas 

pero sabemos picar cuando se nos amenazan.

P: ¿Cúal es tu superpotencia?

R: Puedo controlar el clima con mis emociones...

por eso siempre hay sol en Honduras. 

¡Voy a asegurar que el fuego sale el día de la carrera!

Q: Where are you from?


A: Honduras, of course!


Q: Why are you going to win the marathon?


A: I don't feel like a better runner than the rest, but because I am small I will be able to run faster than the competition.


Q: What is your super power?


A: I am like a great firefly... I have the spirit and velocity of light.  I will fly through this race at the speed of light.


We will soon see if Pao flies past the competition and claims victory in the marathon on June 24th.

R: No me siento como una mejor corredora que los otros, pero porque soy pequeña podré correr más rápidamente que la competencia.

A: I am from Honduras! Villanueva, but I live in San Pedro Sula.

Q: What is your astrological sign?

A: I am Aries...pure fire! And I am the cosmic earth in the Mayan Calendar of 13 moons!

Q: Why are you going to win?

A: Because I have been training...and I believe in myself.

Q: What is your super power?

A: Teleportation. I'm going to change my answer from above. That's how I'm going to win the race.

Maratón de la Prensa - June 24, 2012!

It's official...we're registered for the La Prensa Marathon! The marathon will take place on June 24, 2012, starting at 7am in San Pedro Sula. The runners will have the choice of running 10.5 kilometers or the full 21 kilometers. The Marathon is a national sports symbol that attracts racers from all over the world, including last year's winners from Kenya.

So who is going to win? One of our very own from OYE? The Boys? The Girls? You decide!

Be the movement. Be the change. RACE 4 OYE!

Es oficial...Como el año anterior, la fiesta deportiva organizada por Diario LA PRENSA se celebrará  el domingo 24 de junio a partir de las 7:00 am siendo el punto de partida frente a las instalaciones de diario. A este mismo punto retornaran los participantes luego de recorrer  10.5 kilómetros o la media maratón de 21 kms.

A través de los años , la Maratón de LA PRENSA, que se celebra en el marco de la Feria Juniana, se ha convertido en sinónimo de éxito y en un símbolo del deporte nacional e internacional. Este año nuevamente contaremos con la presencia de atletas internacionales.

Este 2012 no será la excepción. RACE 4 OYE!

The RACE is on...RACE 4 OYE, that is. In June we will be running to see who from the Organization for Youth Empowerment (OYE) can take the gold on race day at the San Pedro Sula Marathon. It's girls versus boys to see who can fundraise the most money for OYE. We invite you to enjoy the blog, as we'll be posting fun videos, photos, and updates.
